Varvsstaden: environmental inventory of the Kockums factories, Malmö
The historic Kockums industrial area in Malmö is being converted into retail and housing. Relement has inventoried the buildings and land before remediation of contamination and hazardous building materials.
The challenge
Kockums' historic industrial site in Malmö is to be converted to retail and housing. Buildings and land are locally heavily contaminated, mainly with oils and heavy metals, and older materials contain substances including asbestos, coal tar and PCB.
What we did
Relement is responsible for environmental and materials inventories, mapping operational contamination in buildings and building risk assessments. Its responsibilities also include demolition plans, regulatory notifications, procurement documents and environmental support and monitoring during procurement and demolition.
